Top500 Super-Computers

Always thinking that you have the fastest computer compared to your friends~??

Or you wanna know what’s (ACTUALLY) the FASTEST super-computer on the Earth~?? Then you should read this one first~…

Top500Project

It’s called the TOP500 Project~ It’s a project to collect the 500 fastest super-computers on the Earth~…

The project began in 1993 and updates its list of super-computers twice a year~… The TOP500 list is compiled by Hans Meuer of the University of Mannheim (Germany), Jack Dongarra of the University of Tennessee (Knoxville), Erich Strohmaier and Horst Simon of NERSC/Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory~… The first updates always coincides with and are presented in the International Supercomputing Conference in June~ And since June 1993 its lists are based on site and vendor submissions only~…

For June 2009~ The fastest super-computer on the Earth would be IBM® Roadrunner™~…

So this are the TOP 10 super-computers on the Earth currently~…

Well~ Those are the TOP 10 FASTEST super-computers on the Earth currently in June 2009~ With the fastest super-computer (IBM® Roadrunner™ respectively) could reach a top performance of 1,456,000,000,000,000 floating point operations per second (1.456 petaflops)~… Or in non-technical term~ It could calculate and solve 1,456,000,000,000,000 complicated unique calculations in 1 second~!!

From those TOP 10 super-computers~ 8 out of 10 are located in the United States~ While the rest 2 are located in the Germany~ The next TOP super-computers would be (in ascending —right column would be the location):

Cray® Franklin™ NERSC/LBNL United States of America
Cray® Jaguar™ XT4 Oak Ridge National Laboratory United States of America
Cray® Red Storm NNSA/Sandia National Laboratories United States of America
IBM® Shaheen™ King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Saudi Arabia
Magic Cube™ Shanghai Supercomputer Center People's Republic of China
IBM® GPC (iDataPlex™) SciNet/University of Toronto Canada
SGI® Encanto™ New Mexico Computing Applications Center (NMCAC) United States of America
Hewlett-Packard® EKA Computational Research Laboratories, TATA SONS India
Appro Juno Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory United States of America
SGI® Jade™ Grand Equipement National de Calcul Intensif – Centre Informatique National de l’Enseignement Supérieur (GENCI-CINES) France

Interesting to know~ IBM® Shaheen™ which is based on IBM® BlueGene/P Solution owned by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology becomes the fastest super-computer in Asia currently~ Ranked 14th~ Above China’s Magic Cube™~… NO Japan-based super-computer in those TOP 20 above because the fastest super-computer located in Japan which is NEC® Earth Simulator™ is ranked 22nd~…
